On this feast day of the universal Church, I beg readers to pray for the pope, that God will have mercy on him, will shore him up with His grace, that he be protected from all harm both physical and spiritual and grant him the wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord necessary to lead the Church out of its current darkness.

R. Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum eius.

Deus, omnium fidelium pastor et rector, famulum tuum Franciscum, quem pastorem Ecclesiae tuae praeesse voluisti, propitius respice: da ei, quaesumus, verbo et exemplo, quibus praeest, proficere: ut ad vitam, una cum grege sibi credito, perveniat sempiternam. Per Christum, Dominum nostrum.
