Fun with geology!
By Hilary White
Look what you get from Google when you just put map coordinates and nothing else into the search.
Interesting, eh?
So, we were sitting around having some fun with geology. Big aftershock a few minutes ago, about 4.7 according to the Italian earthquake website, that went on for more than the usual two seconds, maybe 15 or 20 seconds. The house didn’t just rumble, it swayed rhythmically for what seemed like quite a while. This was the culmination of four or five shocks of increasing magnitude over the last hour. The website gives exact geocoordinates of the epicentre, and I wanted to know how close that last one was.
Anyway…
After that, we decided to go move the kitchen table into the dining/sitting room to make a little bit of an earthquake shelter, close enough to dive under if things get weird again. It’s not much room, but it might make the difference if the ceiling starts getting threatening again.
