Begone Satan! Drink your own poison!
This is a photo of the main strip in Norcia’s centro storico, getting ready for the festa di San Benedetto tomorrow. It comes off the Twitter page of the Norcia commune. Apparently we’re supposed to be proud that the town is now beholden to the EU, that blatantly hates Christianity.
The festa is a huge deal; the regional and local commune government representatives all come and there’s all these civic dignitaries standing around. They’ve made up some kind of odd flaming torch ceremony, and there is the usual costumed flag-juggling and drumming parades you see at all the Italian local festas, and speeches from politicians. Thousands of people come, and back in the day they all trooped into the Basilica for some kind of weird Novusordoist para-liturgy presided over by the neo-modernist bishop.
I always assiduously avoided it out of a fear I would … umm… react in an unbecoming manner…in public.
But I never saw this. I never saw the streets hung with EU flags before. I couldn’t be more disturbed by this photo if they were swastika flags. It turns my guts over.
A friend comments: “It’s like the Israelites hanging Babylonian flags off their ruined temple.”
I just sent a note to Fr. Prior:
I always found the secularist non-Christian, novusordoist festa of San Benedetto deeply disturbing and offputting (though nothing like so awful as Santa Rita in Cascia), but I don’t remember ever seeing anything quite so gruesome as this. They never had EU flags all over the place before.
It’s making me think it’s for the best I can’t come back if the earthquake means it’s just become a fief of the neo-marxist totalitarians at the EU.
Maybe I just didn’t sleep well or something, but I find lately it’s difficult to find anything to hope for from this life. The more I look at it, the more I don’t like the world or anything it offers.
I think I might be a bit depressed now.
Crux sacra sit mihi lux
Non draco sit mihi dux.
Vade retro Satana
Numquam suade mihi vana
Sunt mala quae libas
Ipse venena bibas.
“Let the Holy Cross be my light
Let not the dragon be my guide.
Get behind me, Satan!
Never tempt me with vain things.
What you offer are evils.
Drink the poison yourself!”
