Thanks for the praying, everybody
It rained a good swathe at last! And the forecast is for milder weather for quite a while.
Big humungous storm most of the night (not a whole lot of sleep, as I got up repeatedly to secure shutters and windows and deal with panicked kitties and watch the amazing lightning display).
It started to ease off yesterday; woke up to a thin overcast that boiled up by eleven am to a little thundershower.

Let’s play a game! I call it “Connect the Vatican-perv dots”
So, the redoubtable Gloria TV posts today about a piece from an Italian paper reporting that an unnamed curial official has been arrested by the Vatican’s police for his involvement in gay drug orgies.
~
Il Fatto Quotidiano writes, that the Holy See’s Gendarmerie disrupted a homosexual drug-party in an apartment of the Palazzo del Sant’Uffizio in Rome, where also the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith is located.

Rain!
Keep praying, please!
Woke up this morning to a thin overcast, which thickened up by 11 to a little thundershower. Not much, but its a big relief all by itself. Temps are down ten degrees.
I was out staking up my tomatoes when it started, and it felt wonderful.
More pics here.
Keep praying that we’ve seen the worst and we’ll get a few good days of rain.
St. Isidore, ora pro nobis!

Is there a priest in the house?
I have a special request, if there is a priest who reads this regularly. The area we live in is having a mini drought and temperatures have been stuck in the mid to high nineties for a month. This is an agricultural area and the temperature has been five to ten degrees higher than the annual average for all of June and part of May and the forecast is for no end in sight.

Oh… Hai, Paganism… long time no hear from…
Bari Cathedral offers us the NewNewChurch liturgy.
It was the summer solstice yesterday. Apparently the sun shines through the cathedral’s rose window way prettier on the summer solstice than on every other day.
So they decided to offer a paraliturgy…
At least in Italy the liturgical ballerinas aren’t lumpy 45 year olds.
… that included a barely-clothed snake-lady, for reasons unknown…
I’m helpfully informed by the history people that actual paganism involved a lot more slitting the throats of animals and looking at their entrails, (which must have made temples smell pretty bad) so I guess Catholic paganism is an improvement.

Bottom line: “Satan will not see Christ adored”
A friend points out: “The number of Luthies who kneel is substantial, like in Scandanavia. Francis not kneeling has nada to do with ecumenism.”
I have a dear friend, an old professor down in ______. He’s what you might call the father of the TLM down there. A few years ago, I was at his house sipping bourbon and branch water on his back porch. He’s an encyclopedia on the history of the Liturgical Movement.

Every knee… Most knees… A few knees shall bow
Everybody’s talking about the Pope and the Corpus Domini Mass and procession in Rome this weekend.
We’ve all seen the pics of this pope standing in front of the monstrance on the altar set up in front of St. John Lateran this Sunday, the ornate red-cushioned, conspicuously un-used priedieu sitting in front of him like a rebuke.
I must say, this priedieu so consistently appears at papal events in Rome – and is equally consistently never used – that I am beginning to wonder if there is someone at St.

Like a polar bear in a Greenpeace meme…
the ground under the “conservative” position is melting away…
Waking up yet? Shall I put a pot of coffee on?
But slowly, the ground on which these ‘neoCatholics’ stand was being chipped away, until the only metric left to them has been the Church’s teaching on sexual morality. As long as the pope continues to defend and uphold these, the narrative tells them, it doesn’t matter how many Korans he kisses.
