Where do we go from here?
Over at the Remnant, under a piece I did earlier this week, a reader leaves the following question.
_In the event (likelihood) that the result of the Synod is that Francis
continues his liberal programme, is anyone able to direct me to any
advice by FSSP or other traditional priests concerning continued
attendance at Novus Ordo Masses? I’ve no chance of getting to a
Traditional Mass (UK) but wouldn’t feel able to continue attending a

Bishops set to vote on final Synod document
Our Man in the Vatican spells out some of the more obvious reasons the Final Document (angel chorus) is an irrelevant MacGuffin…HJMW

Singing a new Church into being

The Synod Fathers are set to vote on Saturday on a document they haven’t seen.
Rumoured to be about 100 paragraphs long, the document is the work of a 10 member drafting committee – although as it has been revealed, the actual writing was done by a staff of “experts,” and not by the committee Bishops themselves.

The MacGuffin: why the final document is irrelevant
**What do we expect of the final document?
– Flowery orthodox statements securing a large majority of bishops.**
– Just enough weaselly stuff to give the Pope his opening.
In fiction, a MacGuffin is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or no narrative explanation. The specific nature of a MacGuffin is typically unimportant to the overall plot.

50 million babies a year? What’s that got to do with anything?
Yesterday, I sent an email to our friends at Voice of the Family, the lay organisation that was set up to communicate the concerns of the international pro-life and pro-family movements. I asked:
I do have one official, above-ground question for Voice of the Family, for publication: Was abortion and its effects on the family worldwide substantively addressed at the Synod at any time? If so, by whom?

Life In The Age of Fatima: “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”
I have good news and bad news.
We live in the age of Fatima. So we know how this all ends:
“In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.” It is quite natural, reasonable, and proper to view the current events in the Church and wonder where this time fits within the big prophetical scheme of things.

“Thank God we have the pope… once the pope has decided, we will abide by his decision.”
“Why yes, I did have raw canary for lunch, why do you ask?” I went outside today. Turns out there’s this whole big thing out there. Trees, bugs, flowers, grass… this whole big “fresh air” thing I hear people talking about… so I thought I’d go check it out.
Yeah… I know…
And, of course, while I was out communing with nature, on the day it counted – when Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried came up – it just happened to be Cardinal Marx at the press briefing.

Itty-bitty roundup: Are some bishops more collegial than others?
We missed our Friday Roundup because…
Because… uuummmm…because I didn’t feel like it.
So, here’s a few items from around about..
~
From our buddy Steve at 1P5: If the Synod Fathers Stay Faithful, will Their Votes be Counted?
“Overwhelming majority against communion for remarried divorces, according to observer in the Synod hall”
The question on my mind is simple: what difference does it make, practically speaking, if the majority of Synod fathers opposes this?

For the Remnant: Blasphemy, Heresy, Schism and the “Collapse” of the Church (but, hey, at least the bishops will get to vote)
“I said, Moses was more merciful than Jesus…” “Oh, sorry, I was just wondering when’s lunch.” My latest for the Remnant:
Blasphemy, Heresy, Schism and the “Collapse” of the Church (but, hey, at least the bishops will get to vote)
…I get the impression that no matter how far down any bishop goes in the current synodal version of the game, there’s going to be someone ready to follow him a few feet lower.

Cardinal Napier: No more concerns about synod process, optimistic about outcome
**South African Cardinal Wilfrid Napier told reporters at a briefing Tuesday that Francis’ response to the letter — addressing the entire bishops’ gathering on its second day of work Oct. 6 — “made a huge difference … in the scale of confidence and of trust” in the pope and the synod process.
